This picture was taken by UNICEF (Universal Children's Emergency Fund) to show the destruction war causes. This picture was taken in Syria, and it shows the devastation and destruction of war that interrupts the lives of innocent families. This picture shows a family of four, a dad, mum, young boy and newborn baby, fleeing from their own home in order to find safety, shelter and education for the children. I believe this picture is to help us understand the struggle innocent families have when they are caught in the middle of horrific wars, and to make us feel sympathy as in this picture we can clearly see the despair, distress and desperation in their faces. I specifically feel sympathy for the people in this picture as I can see the baby on the left, which makes me feel sad that the baby could get ill or catch a disease from the harsh environment the family has to deal with
Connection
Family had to run away from home because of the devastating war. I was talking mostly and zooming in on how they fled and what the background is like (How they are living) Also we were zooming in on the fact that they have a really young baby which tells us the mother in this picture has only just given birth and is now having to flee from home. The structure is the family of 4 running from home because of the devastating war.

Composition
In this photo the rule of thirds has been used, 2/3 of the photo is dark and muddy but the other 1/3 is a bright blue sky. The photo has used a fast shutter speed to make it look like a still image. In the photo a deep depth of field has been used because the people and the background is clear. The UNICEF photographer has used worms eye view to look up at the family and it looks like a soft lighting because its all dull and muddy in the background. my eye is drawn to family, father first, then the mother and finally the child. This is because of the leading line going from bottom right to top left almost like stairs attracting our eyes.
Comment
I personally think this is a good picture as the photographer has used the picture to create a sense of sympathy towards the family that has to move away from there home because of conflict. the photograph represents unity towards the family as they are all stood together in height order suggesting that the father is the dominant one who will lead them from the anger and despair they have faced in there past while he also carry's there newborn child. when observing the picture there are certain things that really catch your eyes for example the contrast from the poor, depressing atmosphere to the fathers white hat and red coat. the ruined trampled on mud tells that they've struggled on there journey getting to where they are and coming through the decayed trees and passing the destroyed building which fills the space of the background and gives the picture scale
Mood board - Domestic abuse
Domestic abuse is any incident of controlling, coercive, threatening behavior, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are, or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.
I have chosen these images because I feel like they show what domestic abuse can be. I have chosen images of women and children as you can see the pain and suffering in there faces.
Womens aid is a charity that offers help to women and children that have been involved in domestic abuse.
Plan for my first shoot:
Preparation for shoot 1:
Shoot 1:
Although my first shoot went well and some quality images were produced, I wanted to create more of a sinister effect to further make the viewer understand the reality of what people who suffer from domestic abuse go through. I decided to make the environment dark and used a lamp to create and effect of a street lamp in the night.

evaluation
Our first project theme was conflict and we enjoyed it. We were very passionate about the subject because it happens all around us and comes in many forms. During the conflict project I enjoyed learning how to use Photoshop. This is because I learnt new skills to help improve my work in the future. I learnt how to edit my photos and apply different filters to refine and improve my images. I would like to develop more of my Photoshop skills so i can further improve my photos. Also, would like to develop on preparing for photo shoots as I think this will improve my composition and final outcomes. Throughout this conflict project we observed photographic elements of a conflicting war and its effects on the people in the picture. The company who portrayed such a bleak photo are called 'UNICEF' who support those who are unfortunate in life. They formed a documentary through the use of photos establishing how people survive throughout war and what implications they were stopped by. This was to convey a vital message that war is horrendous and pointless.
