Statement of intent:
My chosen theme for my GCSE photography will be changing landscapes and I am going to do this by going to different areas in Manchester. I will specifically focus on urban areas as I believe it relate to my research and will allow me to achieve the marks to reach my target grade. I have chosen the theme landscape as it requires and allows me to show a large range of skills that i have learnt throughout the photography course.
In order to create a high quality, flawless and unique piece I will carry out research on a few different photographers who portray different varieties of art and photography, such as the work of Pedro Correa who is famous for his 'fine art' project. Correa's amazing project involves the use of steamed up and dirty mirrors which, although at first glance seem basic, portray a very powerful image and can have many different interpretations. Furthermore I plan to visit The Whitworth and Manchester Art Gallery where I will visit David Oates, 'In the Streets of Liverpool' focusing on his pictures of urban landscapes and his use of everyday people. I hope to carry out my research and implement it into my work so i can try different aspects of photography so that I can can take more creative and unique photographs.
I intend to take a variety of photo shoots to develop my work on 'Landscapes'. I will take many shoots both inside and outside of school to work so that i can work in different environments, with my friends and independently. I plan to include many different styles of photography such as portraits and still life so that my work can branch out and become liked by everyone.
Throughout this project I will be changing my camera settings a lot however I plan to focus on manual techniques such as rule of thirds, depth of field and white balance in order to create more eye catching picture and to make my pictures stand out from others and I will change my shutter speed to portray different features within my photos. Also, I plan to use digital techniques such as photoshop to manipulate the images I have taken to possibly make them more unique or to possibly emphasize the use of certain colors in our everyday lives.
During this project I hope to learn more about how to become more creative and how to portray the ideas I have in my head onto a photograph, I also hope that during this project my ability to research and take ideas from other photographers so that I can efficiently implement their style into my work which will improve it.
I see my final format as being a gallery of hopefully 3-5 shoots and 3-5 of by best images taken from each shoot. Also I intend to implement skills learnt from this project and implement them into all my future work.

Zooming into an image, Adam Burton
Content
Composition:
From looking at this photo I can see that the photography went out early in the morning in order to capture a misty, supernatural effect, this also has been done by using a slow shutter speed. Furthermore the photographer has purposefully created a vanishing point as you look deeper into the trees. Rule of thirds has been used in order to draw the viewer to the photo and create a frame around the other trees. Also the deep green color of the moss creates strong leading lines along the trees and the rocks in the fore ground make the viewer feel as if they are in the picture. I believe the photographer has used a tripod in his picture in order to use a slow shutter speed and keep the image in focus.
Rural environment:
Flowers and grass:
Rocks:
This is my favorite image as a shallow depth of field has been used in order to emphasis the detail in the rock and create a contrast between the soft yellow and bright blue sky. Furthermore rule of thirds has also been used in pair with the depth of field in order to make our eye drawn to the yellow rock.
This is my worst image as there isn't really a focus point or purpose of this image. The lighting is over exposed the the left of the image making it displeasing to the eye. |

Linking paragraph:
When we went to Anglesey, we went during summer time to capture the bright vibrant colours portrayed by nature. We took photos during the day time therefore all my pictures have good and bright lighting, during the trip I focused on taking pictures of nature and that is shown through my vast collection of pictures which vary from flowers, trees, rocks and water. From this trip I learnt how to adjust my camera settings to pair with the different type of lighting and also get the perfect picture by changing the depth of field.
On the other hand when I went to Manchester and Salford, the lighting contrasted and tended to be quite cold and less vibrant. While in the City I wanted to capture the busy flow of life and beautiful architecture in which surrounds us. During this trip I learned how to manipulate reflections off glass windows and also change my aperture to partner with the cold lighting.

My theme for photography Photoshop:
My theme for photography is 3D geometric patterns. I am doing this because i believe it creates really elusive and majestic photos which can create a relieving feeling and can create a contrast in different environments and colors.
I watched this tutorial in order to learn how to Photoshop my images and create the outcomes I want.
My 1st edit:
Firstly I created a new photoshop page and placed the two images I wanted to edit, Then I create a rectangle which can be whatever size you want and also created a duplicate so I could later cut it in half in order to make the shapes I wanted. After I cut the rectangle I created the pattern i wanted to see and then moved both my prior pictures, depending on what i wanted to be inside the rectangles, accordingly to the layer they needed to be at. Then I had my final image. I recommend this for anyone new Photoshop as it is fairly easy and can create a nice, contrasting image. I also swapped the two images around to show the opposite side of things.
First I opened the image which I wanted to be in the background then I selected the rectangle tool, created a square 16 inches by 16 inches, rotated it to create a diamond shape, and placed it in the middle of the background. Next I duplicated the square and moved it slightly to the right also changing its layer to overlay in order to create a see through effect. I repeated this but moved the diamond to the left and changed the layer to soft light to also create a see through effect however slightly different to the other diamond. Once I had created my back ground and effects I decided to add in my other image and created a clipping mask in order to put the image inside of the diamond. Then I added thin lines through the back ground of the image however. I added a border to the original diamond and duplicated the layer in order to create the dotted lines going around the image.

Mock Exam Evaluation:
My chosen theme for this project was landscapes however I wanted to explore the contrasts between urban and rural landscapes, I thought of this when I went on a school trip to Anglesey, Manchester and Salford and seen the differences between the photos. I did this by manipulating my images on Photoshop to create a collage of colors and environments. I really enjoyed this project as I got to take images of my city which made the topic very personal to me and allowed me to express my self fluently through my camera. My favorite part of this project was getting out and going to the city and country side and meeting new people while carrying out my work.
During this project I greatly improved my on my photography skills, I believe this is shown in my Anglesey photos through my use of depth of field also my previous framing project allowed me to capture many shots which I would have not seen prior. Furthermore I developed my Photoshop skills which can be seen through the vast change in my photo shopped images since my last project. I want to improve my writing skills as although my images and outcomes are good, my written work doesn't match with the same great quality.
For this project I researched Adam Burton as he is a well known rural photographer, and I also used my prior research on Vivian Maier and her amazing collection of images of urban Chicago to help inspire me. They have influenced my images by inspiring me to involve both living and non living things into my images. I feel like the most successful part of my project was creating my own style of images through taking inspiration from others because my images are unique.
During my project I ran into a few problems, one of these being struggling to develop my work as a whole. I solved this by working with my peers and teacher in order to see what was missing and what could be improved, this drastically improved manipulating my images and improved the structure of my work. If I were to do something different I would focus on creating a different
